What it takes

What we sort out before you launch.

These are the rules that most often catch brands out. You don’t need to master them. We do.

North America

United States, Canada, Mexico

  • Amazon runs the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil from one unified account.
  • Into the US: the $800 duty-free exemption has been suspended since August 29, 2025, so low-value shipments now owe applicable duties.
  • Into the US: regulated products need a safety certificate, and since July 8, 2026 importers must file its data electronically.
  • Canada: GST/HST applies, and consumer packaging generally needs English and French.
  • Mexico: labels in Spanish, and official NOM standards apply to many product types.

South America

Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay

  • Brazil sits on Amazon’s North America and Brazil account, and can be served from US stock through remote fulfillment.
  • Listings need Portuguese, and import taxes can be high. We model them before you commit.
  • Certain categories need local approval, such as INMETRO for many electrical goods and ANVISA for cosmetics and health products.

UK & Europe

United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Türkiye, Ukraine

  • One regional Amazon account covers the main European stores. OnBuy adds a second channel across much of the region.
  • EU product safety: since December 13, 2024 consumer products need a responsible person based in the EU, shown on the listing.
  • EU VAT applies from the first euro. Stock held in a country usually means registering for VAT there.
  • EU duty: a flat €3 per item type has applied to parcels up to €150 since July 1, 2026, set to run until July 1, 2028. A separate €2 handling fee per item was due to start on November 1, 2026.
  • Packaging: the EU’s packaging regulation has applied since August 12, 2026. Producers register in each country, such as Germany’s LUCID register and France’s EPR numbers, and marketplaces must see proof.
  • The UK has its own rules since Brexit: UK VAT, including at checkout on parcels up to £135, and its own product marking.

Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa

Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Benin, Brunei, Botswana, DR Congo, Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, China, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, South Korea, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Mali, Malawi, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda, Senegal, Thailand, Taiwan, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, South Africa, Zambia

  • Japan, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia each need their own Amazon account.
  • Japan: importers based abroad must name a customs procedure agent in Japan and notify customs in advance. Many electrical goods need PSE marking.
  • India: GST registration and Indian packaging rules apply, and BIS certification covers many electronics.
  • Saudi Arabia: VAT registration and product conformity through the SABER platform, with Arabic labels.
  • Australia, New Zealand and Singapore: GST applies to many low-value imports and is usually collected at checkout.
